Privacy Policy

prettypara.site is about the sensitive handling of data. Consequently, we try to collect as little data as possible and give users a maximum of autonomy over their data. Data will NOT be used for marketing purposes. Data will NOT be passed to a third party. Data is only used for its artistic processing and display as intended by the user.

Nevertheless, prettypara.site is a beta product, constantly evolving and some things do not work right away. If you are missing a feature or information or have questions about privacy, write to hello@prettypara.site. We'll try to provide quick answers or add features.

1. Scope of application, responsible party

This privacy policy applies to prettypara.site, available at https://prettypara.site (“prettypara.site” or the “website”).

The responsible party within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other national data protection laws and other data protection provisions is:

2. Data upload

The core function of prettypara.site is the upload and artistic analysis and display of data. Users have previously requested this data independently from large tech companies and stored it on their device.

2.1. Analysis and anonymization on the user's device

When uploading to prettypara.site, the data is analyzed and processed in the user's browser in the first step. This step takes place exclusively on the user's device and no data is transferred to prettypara.site. The files are searched specifically for time information (timestamps). This time information is usually recorded by the big tech companies with millisecond accuracy and stored in the data. prettypara.site automatically deletes all millisecond, second and minute information. The data is cached ("flattened") with an accuracy of 10 minutes to make it unrecognizable. In addition, prettypara.site analyzes the name and structure of the data file to make predictions about the origin (the tech company) of the data. These are later reflected in the artistic description. All other data (names, content, location information) that may contain personal information of the user are not evaluated, not cached and consequently cannot be transmitted later.

2.2. Transmission and storage

The anonymized and flattened data is transmitted to prettypara.site via a secured and encrypted connection and stored in a database. The database is secured according to industry standard and protected against unauthorized access. The server is located in Frankfurt, Germany.

2.3. Deletion of the data

Users can delete their data at any time. They chose 'delete upload' from the menu or footer and enter their upload ID and upload key. These keys are provided directly after each upload. Users can re-generate their key easily on the 'delete upload' page with the original file they uploaded to generate their visualization.

3. Provision of the website and creation of log files

prettypara.site is hosted on a server within the EU.

When you access the website, the following information is automatically collected, which your browser transmits to our server and which are technically necessary for us to enable you to visit the website and to ensure stability and security:

  • Websites from which you accessed our website
  • Date and time of the access
  • Name of the Internet access provider
  • Browser type/version and language
  • The operating system used
  • Access status/HTTP status code
  • The quantity of data transferred
  • Device (PC, tablet PC or smartphone)
  • Our pages visited including visit time
  • The last website you visited

This information stored in the server log files is processed in particular for the following purposes:

  • to ensure a problem-free connection to the website,
  • to ensure smooth use of our website,
  • to evaluate system security and stability

There is no person-based analysis. The temporary storage of your IP address is necessary to enable your terminal device to access the website. This requires the IP address of the user to be saved for the duration of the session.

Processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR on the basis of our justified interest in improving the stability and functionality of our website.

The data will be deleted as soon as they are no longer required for the purpose of collection. This is generally the case for the data used for the provision of the website when the respective session has ended. In the case of storage of data in the server log files, this is the case after 14 days at the latest. Storage beyond this period is possible; in this case, the IP addresses will be deleted or alienated, so that an assignment of the calling client is no longer possible.

4. Recording of page usage

Page views of prettypara.site are counted and recorded, including the time of their occurrence. With this information we want to find out which features and information users need, and to improve them accordingly. In addition, we evaluate information about language preferences and alternatives provided by the browser, if the user has provided this information. This way we want to determine if prettypara.site needs an adaptation into other languages. We don't assign this information to individual users.

5. A/B Testing

prettypara.site exists in two or more different versions. When users visit the site, we randomly assign them to one of the two versions. External links can point to a specific page. This way we want to find out which features and which messages appeal to the users and improve the site accordingly.
